The commonly used turning tools in precision parts machining and turning are generally divided into three categories: pointed turning tools, circular turning tools, and formed turning tools.
1. Sharp turning tool. A turning tool with straight cutting edge features is usually referred to as a pointed turning tool. The tip of this type of turning tool (i.e. its seating point) consists of a straight main cutting edge and a secondary cutting edge, such as 90 degree internal and external turning tools, left and right turning tools, cutting (grooving) turning tools, and various external and internal turning tools with very small edges when the tip is inverted. When using this type of turning tool to process parts, the contour shape of the parts is mainly obtained by the displacement of an independent tool tip or a straight main cutting edge, which is completely different from the principle of the contour shape of the parts obtained during the processing of the other two types of turning tools. The main method for selecting the geometric angle of pointed turning tools is basically the same as that of ordinary turning, but comprehensive consideration should be given to whether it is suitable for machining characteristics (such as machining routes), machining interference, and the strength of the tool tip itself should be taken into account.
2. Circular arc turning tool. Arc-shaped turning tools are special turning tools used for processing precision parts in Dongguan. It is a turning tool characterized by curved cutting edges with small arc or line profile errors. Each point on the edge of an arc turning tool is the tip of the arc turning tool. Therefore, the tool positioning point is not on the arc, but at the center of the arc. When certain pointed turning tools or formed turning tools (such as threaded turning tools) have a certain arc shape, they can also be used as such turning tools.
3. Formed turning tools. Formed turning tools are commonly referred to as model turning tools, and the contour shape of Dongguan precision parts processing parts is completely determined by the shape and size of the cutting edge of the turning tool. When machining precision parts in Dongguan, common forming turning tools include small radius arc turning tools, non rectangular groove turning tools, and thread turning tools. During the machining process, the use of formed turning tools should be minimized as much as possible. When it is indeed necessary to choose, detailed explanations should be provided in the Dongguan precision parts processing process preparation document or process step table.
The above three types of turning tools are commonly used in machining, namely pointed turning tools, circular turning tools, and formed turning tools. The pointed turning tool has a good polishing effect on the workpiece surface, and the arc turning tool can effectively reduce the roughness of the workpiece surface and slow down tool wear. Improve tool life. Formed turning tools have simple structure, easy manufacturing, and the disadvantages are less regrinding times and low service life.
