The spiral groove processed by milling machine in precision parts processing is usually the spiral groove formed by Archimedes line, which can be divided into plane spiral groove and cylindrical spiral groove. The machining of planar spiral grooves is similar to the machining of straight formed surfaces of disk cams. The processing of cylindrical spiral grooves has the following technological characteristics:
(1) Usually, a universal indexing head is used to configure the exchange gear for processing. There are two methods for configuring the exchange gear, namely the indexing head side shaft configuration and the spindle configuration, to adapt to different lead needs.
(1) The cylindrical spiral groove milling process can use a disc milling cutter or a finger milling cutter. When milling, if a disc milling cutter is used, the milling cutter should form an angle with the workpiece axis, and the angle turned should be calculated based on the helix angle. The rotation of the angle is generally achieved through a workbench or end milling head.
(2) There is interference phenomenon in the milling of cylindrical spiral grooves, which is caused by changes in helix angles of different diameters and the curvature radius of the disc milling cutter. Interference can affect the groove shape of the spiral groove.
(3) When using special milling cutter to mill spiral groove in precision parts processing, such as spiral groove of Fried Dough Twists drill, it must be adjusted according to the designed tool setting parameters to meet the processing requirements of the design parameters.
