Since the birth of ChatGPT, robots traveling on the path from machines to humans have become more and more like humans. The once cold machines can now not only do what humans do, but also speak what humans say, possess tactile skin, and even understand human emotions, creating empathy with them.
It is reported that Thermometrics and Arizona State University jointly created a heat sensitive "thermal model" that can imitate human sweating. This model has 35 individually controllable surfaces that can generate heat, tremble, and breathe. When scientists empowered machines with the functions of "breathing, sweating, and trembling", a robot named ANDI was born.
As the first robot to operate outdoors, ANDI has the potential to achieve more tasks that humans cannot complete. For example, experiments can be conducted in extremely high temperature environments that were previously inaccessible, and even the effects of solar radiation can be studied.
In view of these properties of ANDI, researchers from Arizona State University said that they planned to test ANDI in high temperature vulnerable areas around Phoenix to observe the reaction of people of different ages, shapes and medical conditions to high temperature. At the same time, we can understand different Thermoregulation mechanisms by customizing models of different BMI, ages and medical conditions.
Based on these survey data, researchers are expected to customize more practical solutions to reduce the health risks caused by extreme high temperatures; Develop new ways to protect people from high temperature hazards and improve overall health strategies. This has potential impacts on various fields that focus on human health and safety.
Although robots represented by ANDI are constantly approaching real humans, the goal of robot research and development in the scientific field is not limited to a simulated human, but to assist human scientific research and practice through the empowerment of machines, such as assisting researchers in simulating the impact of different environments on the human body. Moreover, with the continuous progress and development of technology, the field of robotics in the future will not only be further refined in terms of simulation level, but also expand further in terms of usage boundaries.
